Anita Ekberg

Marianne (Swedish pronunciation (listen), 29/09/1931 - 11/01/2015) was a
Swedish actress who was well-known for her beauty and stunning figure. She was
famous for her character in the role of Sylvia in the Federico Fellini film La
Dolce Vita (1960). Ekberg was primarily employed in Italy which she later made
her permanent residence in 1964. Anita Ekberg was the sixth child of eight.
Anita was a fashion model throughout her teenage years. Ekberg took part in the
Miss Malmo competition in 1950 following the advice of her mother. The result
was that she won the Miss Sweden contest. Despite having a very limited
knowledge of English the contestant traveled to the United States to compete
for the 1951 Miss Universe title (an unofficial pageant until the pageant
officially became official in 1952). Ekberg was not the Miss Universe winner,
but she was one of six contestants. The contestant did get a contract with
Universal Studios as a starlet. Ekberg was a Universal starlet, where she was
taught dance, drama, and elocution. She briefly appeared in The Mississippi
Gambler (1953), Abbott and Costello go to Mars (1953), Take Me to Town (1953)
and The Golden Blade (53).
