Pom Klementieff

Pom Klementieff, a French actress, was born 3 May 1986. She studied at the Cours Florent drama school, Paris. She has been in movies such as Loup 2009, Sleepless Night 2011 and Hacker's Game 2015. She portrays the role of Mantis in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). Pom Klementieff was the daughter of the Korean mother and an American-Russian father. Her father was consul in Quebec City, Canada. Eugene Klementieff, a painter was her grandpa. Her parents chose the name "Pom" because it's like the Korean words for both "spring" as well as "tiger". Klementieff was a citizen of Canada for a single year. Her family had travelled extensively due to her father's work. After moving to France she lived in Japan. Her father was diagnosed with cancer when she was 5 and her mother was suffering from schizophrenia and was incapable of caring for children and so Klementieff was raised by her aunt and uncle who were paternal. Her uncle, whom she said in her own words as "like her first father," died on Klementieff’s 18th birthday. Her older brother was killed seven years later. The second time, it was her 25th birthday. Klementieff briefly went to law school after the death of her uncle in order to please her aunt, but did not find the career option attractive. In France she was employed as a salesperson and waitress. She began acting at age 19 in the Cours Florent drama school in Paris. It was only two months into studying when she won the competition to be a part of the theater that provided her two years of tuition with the school's best teachers. Klementieff was the stepdaughter of Catherine Deneuve in Apres lui (2006) which was her first acting job professionally. Three days were spent on filming her scenes. In one scene, Klementieff was supposed to push a person down a set of stairs however, she fell down the steps herself, as did director Gael Morel filmed that scene in the final film. Her debut lead role came in Loup (2009) the French film that follows a tribe of reindeer herders who live in the Siberian mountains. Klementieff spent filming hours in an isolated camp away from the closest village. The temperatures dropped to minus zero during filming.
