Paula Patton
Paula Patton is the daughter of Joyce
(Vanraden) Patton and Charles Patton. Her father is African-American . her
mother is caucasian, has German, English, and Dutch heritage. As a child and
her family lived across from the 20th Century Fox lot. She was a fervent movie
buff from the time she was a child. Her mother, who appreciated good films
taught in a school, and her father was a lawyer. Paula admits that she used to
escape from her mother by pretending to be someone else as a child. It is not
surprising that she was involved in Hamilton Magnet Arts High School's high
school dramas. Her favorite role was "Abigail" from "The
Crucible". She went on to take a course in film at the University of
Southern California in a summer program, and received a three-month contract to
create documentary films for PBS. In the end, she could work as a production
assistant in documentaries on TV and also on Howie Mandel’s talk show. Then she
began producing documentary segments for Medical Diaries (2000) airing on
Discovery Health Channel. Paula states she loves what she's doing, however her
goal was the same. She began acting classes before deciding to switch gears and
become an actor. She became a huge hit, playing major roles in Hitch (2005),
Idlewild (2006) and Idlewild (2006), and the lead female role in Deja Vu (2006)
opposite Denzel.
